The Monterey Greywater Group/Guild
is a group of local business people, contractors and environmentalists, working to minimize the damage to our local rivers and aquifers by promoting the proper use of greywater systems. Its our belief that by using these simple systems correctly, local residents will be able to make a significant difference in the amount of fresh water they need to irrigate their properties and return unused water to the aquifers.

Our goals include;
Education of the public about the value and availability of greywater conservation.
To promote the successful installation of the large number of simple sustainable greywater systems necessary to significantly reduce the amount of water drawn from local rivers and aquifers.
To provide a means for the homeowner to maintain their landscapes through greywater irrigation instead of fresh water irrigation
To encourage the use of simple sustainable systems that minimize environmental impact and maximize longevity.
To help provide sustainable livelihoods to environmentally concerned individuals and companies working toward water conservation.

Hi The Greywater Group is changing. We started as an information source, and we still are a great place to get accurate, up to date information on the California water crisis and solutions. But we have added a role as the Greywater Guild. A guild is a group of professionals banded together to ensure that the quality of their work remains at its highest. This is especially important for greywater installers and designers. After the state passed emergency measure
1603A.1.1 it has fallen on the cities and counties to amend their code as they see fit. These cities are torn between wanting to promote greywater use and the need to protect their constituents from incorrectly installed systems. By forming the Greywater guild we can maintain our own high standards. This allows the building departments to to establish an inexpensive, easy to acquire permit for greywater, with the knowledge that this new industry will regulate itself. Is this possible? The people on greywater policy, accreditation, professional practices have been working very hard with little or no compensation to make this work. They are mostly environmentalists who see this as a very good way to help the environment. They know that the biggest threat to all their hard work is to have these new legal systems installed incorrectly. So its in their best interest to do an exceptionally good job, and keep excellent records. This benefits the everyone. The homeowner pays less, because the permitting process has been reduced in price and streamlined. They get more as the installers provide exceptional service to meet these industry standards. The permitting departments don't have to add more work to their already full agendas. The installers benefit from less beauruacy and all the benefits that come from doing quality work. Even the environment benefits from all the waste reducing aspects of greywater being implemented more quickly due to less regulation. Win, win.The Monterey Greywater Group/Guild
